Data Management Framework (DMF) is a powerful tool in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations that allows users to import, export, and migrate data. One of the key features of DMF is the ability to use data templates to export data from D365FO in a pre-configured sequence of entities. Data templates in DMF can be a valuable tool for streamlining data export/copy processes and ensuring that the exported data meets specific requirements.
Default data templates:
Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations comes with a set of standard data templates that include commonly used entities that are sequenced to provide a starting point for users to export data from the system. Standard templates are updated with each release of D365FO to reflect changes in the application.

To access the default data templates, navigate to LCS (Microsoft Dynamics Lifecycle Services) > Shared asset library > Data package. From there, you can download the desired template to your local PC and import it to D365FO.

Note: By clicking on each template, you can download it on your local pc.

Then you can import the template to D365FO as follows:

Custom templates:
You can build custom data templates manually or by modifying the default templates to suit your business requirements.
For example, you can load template ID “130 – Tax” from LCS and update it with entities required based on your business requirements. If you need to change the template ID, you can either rename the template or create a new template and import the updated data.

TO-BE:

If you already have data projects that can be used as data templates, you can retrieve the data project as a new template and make the necessary changes:

In conclusion, Data templates in DMF can be a valuable tool for streamlining data exports and ensuring that the exported data meets specific requirements. By using standard templates or creating custom templates, users can save time and effort when exporting or copying data from D365FO. It is recommended to review and update the data templates periodically to reflect changes in the system and business requirements.
